What You’ll Do

A Network Consulting Engineer is an integral part of the Customer Experience (CX) team delivering Business Critical Services to our customers. Business Critical Services combines the power of Cisco Analytics and Knowledge with the best in class technical expertise and consulting (that’s you) to drive value, innovation, and adoption in our customer’s network, helping them to reduce risk, drive innovation, and optimize their network to meet business objectives. You will be the customer’s trusted advisor and subject matter expert helping the customer understand their network, how to reduce risks, and take advantage of the technology. You will work with Cisco Engineering to advocate for new innovation for your customer and as a liaison who shares what is coming with your customers to help them be on the cutting edge of creativity.

You will be partnered with a team of dedicated Architects, Technical Leaders, Consulting Engineers, Project Managers, and Delivery leaders passionate about our customers' success and showing them the value Cisco brings to their business.

Who You Are

You are a Consultant who is able to guide service provider customers in highly complete mass-scale network design, optimization and operationalization process involving Cisco MIG platforms C8000 Spitfire, NCS5K Core & ASR9K Lightspeed platforms and IOSXR Software using Cisco's automation framework tools and processes. You have strong advisory, consulting and interpersonal skills coupled with deep technology skills in Cisco Routing and Switching platforms. Day to day, you will : 

  • Consult with customers and Cisco partners to plan, design, install, configure, integrate and optimize Cisco’s suite of products, services to accelerate business outcomes
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to resolve complex customer problems
  • Align and drive focused work with customer's business strategy and objectives
  • Present and articulate to executives and individual contributors the status and business value of CX Consulting and Business Critical Services on a periodic basis
  • Engage cross-functional Cisco resources to ensure comprehensive, coordinated, and unified support experience
  • Drive architectural, design and integration engineering for complex network infrastructure solutions
  • Assist customers in analyzing and adopting standard processes for configuration, software lifecycle management, network health, and security
  • Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with clients
  • Perform problem analysis and acts as technical specialist for the complex deployments and provides highest-level crisis management
  • Solve complex, multi-functional technical issues that cross boundaries over many disparate products technologies
  • Develop internal relationships with the Cisco Business Units and Development Engineers to further customer specific issues
  • Train and mentor other consulting engineers

Minimum Requirements

  • working on site at customer in Denver, CO
  • Around 5 years of Service Provider Routing and IOSXR experience including feature support, and software triage & root cause analysis support
  • Good Network design skills with strong knowledge of networking fundamentals
  • Hands on experience in deploying and supporting Cisco IOS-XR, IOS-XE and IOS Software
  • Routing Platforms: ASR9K, NCS5K, and other Cisco Routing & Switching Platforms
  • IP Routing,  BGP, OSPF, & MPLS
  • Basic understanding of NX-OS, Data Center


Preferred Skills

  • Working knowledge of YANG models, NETCONF, and gNMI/gNOI
  • Moderate to advanced knowledge of software programmability, automation, orchestration, virtualization Prior Scripting, Python, and/or Linux experience desired
  • QoS, Ipv6, IP SLAs, RPVST+, MST, PIM, DMVPN, GETVPN, NetFlow
  • (L2/L3 VPN/VRF-Lite), MPLS-TE, EIGRP, ISIS, LAN Switching
  • ACI & Cisco 8000
  • CCIE Certification

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
